Cyberbullying is the use of digital tools to repeatedly harass, intimidate, or embarrass someone. It can occur on platforms like social media, messaging apps, gaming networks, and mobile phones.
The rise of social media and the internet has revolutionized the way people communicate and connect as well as communicate. However, in this digital age, it has also introduced new risks, including cyberbullying. Unlike traditional bullying, cyberbullying can be relentless and pervasive, operating around the clock and potentially reaching a wide audience almost instantaneously, moreover, some news articles have cited that Malaysia is the second highest country on cyberbullying keeping close behind South Korea.
As cyberbullying becomes more prevalent, educating users especially young people on its various forms is crucial for fostering a safer and more supportive online environment.

A multi-faceted approach is vital for effectively tackling cyberbullying. Exposing the effects of cyberbullying, particularly to young people, can increase awareness and help users identify when cyberbullying occurs. Understanding these issues allows the users to recognize harmful behaviours and fosters a more empathetic online community. Educating users on how to adjust privacy settings on social media and messaging platforms, block or report abusive users, and enhance the availability and accessibility of psychological support and counselling for victims can make a significant difference in managing or stopping cyberbullying.
While there is ongoing discussion about implementing specific laws to address cyberbullying in Malaysia, experts emphasize that effective solutions must involve a multi-stakeholder approach. Addressing cyberbullying effectively requires a collective effort from individuals, communities, platforms, and policymakers. By integrating these educational and systemic approaches, we can empower individuals to navigate the online world more safely and encourage a culture of respect and support in digital interactions.
